Ghost Stories to Scare the Dickens Out of You In-Person
In early Victorian England, ghost stories were told at Christmastime. The tradition of celebrating the dead at the end of October (now Halloween) had declined in England, but was still observed by the Irish and Scots, who brought it to America. In 1853, Charles Dickens began public readings of shortened versions of his books, and this event will carry on his story-reading traditions.
