Trumbull Eats: A Dense History of Fruitcake

Trumbull Eats: A Dense History of Fruitcake In-Person

Trumbull Eats is our monthly series of cooking demonstrations. Watch a library staff member prepare two themed recipes, then enjoy samples and take home printed copies to try yourself.

When you hear the word “fruitcake,” do you think doorstop instead of dessert? Following an old family recipe, we’ll demonstrate making a traditional English fruitcake, also known as "Christmas Cake." We'll also discuss the history of this centuries-old treat which is still beloved across the UK, and whether it deserves its negative reputation. And we'll show a variation that involves chocolate, which is sure to win over even the most diehard fruitcake haters.
